Non-Tariff Measures and the Quality of Imported Products

Abstract Legitimate reasons for the imposition of non-tariff measures (NTMs) within regulations have triggered their extensive use. Among these measures, technical barriers to trade (TBTs) and sanitary phytosanitary (SPS) allow countries impose restrictions on import low-quality products suspected harming domestic consumers’ health, plant life, or environment. This paper analyses two regulative standard-like NTMs – TBTs SPS quality traded that is driven by imposition, which a general underlying motive adoption such regulations. A dummy variable measuring existence count indicating stringency are used in analysis. Moreover, other variables indicate flows imposed each year stocks accumulated over years.
